After New York, I woke up in Washington DC. There’s not much to say about DC. I was passing through it and was impressed with how small it was. I can’t say much more than that. DC is a very ordinary town for the most part. I’m sure the Washington Square part is impressive, but my brief time in DC was nothing quite like I expected. It was disappointing in a similar way Ottawa was when it came to the capital stuff.
Once I was on my new bus, I slept all the way to York. Once there, I was picked up by the amazing Timothy Fling. Much like Jane, I’ve known Timothy because of my show. So it was great to be able to spend a couple of days with him and his family.
I wasn’t there too long, as I was heading into Ohio to meet with Rodney next, and wanted to get home as soon as possible. That said, I enjoyed this almost as much as I found Manhattan distasteful.
Tim is a gracious host. He got me to look at the highlights of what made York so special, including the graveyards of some of the people who helped write the constitution. Tim I found was proud of the history and he should be. Americans are very proud of their culture. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Tim is like many, proud of where he comes from, and he should be.
Pennsylvania in general has a lot of history with the United States. Each city from Philidelphia to Pittsburgh has its own neat histories as well, as well as quite a few towns . If I had a regret about this trip so far, it’s that I didn’t give the rest of the state love. It looked as though winter was coming, and I had my grandmother to see.
That wasn’t to say that this wasn’t fun. Timothy took me through a tour of the town and the park just outside the city. Again, I’m blown away about how pretty Pennsylvania is. Timothy took me to a park in which we looked straight into the water way. Forests and trees were not what I was expecting when I saw this city, but that’s what I got.
Walking into these places, I saw a lot of deer in the area. As we approached the entrance to the waterfall, there was a whole group of deer in the main gathering. They disappeared from the meeting spot and vanished into the forest.
When we got back, I met Tim’s wife, and stepson. Tim is a lucky guy with both of them, and he’d be the first to tell you that. We went to a place to get a halloween costume for his wife, and after we hung out and created. I was doing some writing for a website I got published in, and really getting the substack growing, and Tim was working on launching his own shows and concepts.
We always worry as creatives how to turn this into a living. I can say this now as I’ve approached nearly 100 subscribers. (Thanks all.) Writing is a process. It’s taken a long time to get a bunch of people to read this. We all fear that our dreams and passions don’t lead to the places we’re supposed to go to.
I don’t know of a single writer that doesn’t believe that. When I get a chance to talk to creatives like Tim, I always try to help rejuvenate that passion. As long as you’re happy to pursue it, the dream should always be pushed for. Anything is possible. Creatives more than anyone need to believe that.
It’s nice to have that kind of creative interaction. Tim and I talked goals and dreams going forward, and we reaffirmed a good friendship. It was great to meet him, and enjoy the city he lived in. Check out Tim’s substack if you want to see some of his stories. He’s a great writer in his own right and has
I was off to Ohio. My next quest was near completion, but the province of Ohio awaited me. Thanks Tim.
